Your Dance Portfolio

A strong portfolio of dance photographs can be a great help in getting your foot in the door and securing a place in that all important audition.

Your portfolio must show your abilities and the talents that you have cultivated throughout your training and career to date.

What you choose to show in your portfolio should be entirely up to you and, over time, you may produce more than one portfolio for use when applying for different types of work.

A printed portfolio normally consists of 8-12 images which demonstrate your ability in the best possible way. It's important to have some variety so the images do not all look like they were taken on the same day and in the same place. Here are some example images to give you some ideas. Web based portfolios may contain many more images but can be built up over time.

With some planning it is easy to get a number of distinctly different images from a single shoot. Changes in costume, hair, dance style, lighting and composition all combine to make a selection of individual photographs that you can use to show your dance performance skills at their best.

Your Portfolio Shoot

Four hours is almost the ideal length for a portfolio shoot, giving plenty of time for warming up, changes and a variety of styles and lots of photographs.

Before your shoot we will spend plenty of time planning the images you want and the styles of dance you want to show. We can discuss the best costumes, hairstyles and photographic styles you want to use.

During the shoot you are in charge. We can spend as long as you like getting one perfect shot or work quickly covering a number of different styles in the time we have. It's always useful to bring source material for inspiration including books, magazines and images found on the internet. You are welcome to bring a friend to the shoot and if they are a dancer then that can often help you come up with new and interesting ideas.

After the shoot you'll get a link to an online gallery of all the images from the day. You can choose ten of these images which will be edited to a high standard and sent to you in a number of different formats. You will receive...

The images can be sent to you via the web or posted on a USB memory stick. To see some examples from previous shoots click here...

Costs

The cost of a four hour shoot is £150 plus studio hire costs. This includes pre-shoot planning, the shoot, editing and supply of the ten images you select in the formats listed above.

Editing of additional images is available at £10 per image.

Colour matched prints can be provided if required. Price is dependant on the size of the print but as a guide an A4 print (210mm x 297mm) is approximately £6

Studio hire costs are not included in the above price. If you have access to a studio or wish to do a location shoot outside then there will be no cost for the studio hire. If you wish to do a studio shoot then I can suggest a number of suitable locations in the London area.
